“Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?”
-Isaiah 33:14
He is deafening sound and burning light
and this sinner’s eyes cannot bear the load;
I have feared His wrath and now dread delight
for who can love when so much still is owed?
Yet, with Him, thankfulness is not a debt
but a happiness doubled up in wonder
and our coward souls, once they’ve braved the threat
of lightning, are untroubled by the thunder.
The weak He remakes in His image, strong
enough to touch the Sun and sit among
stars. Praise Him who, from the treacherous throng,
has redeemed a choir from every tribe and tongue.
They will spend whole eternities in song
and still His worth will not be over-sung.

“At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire.'”
